Mr Wolf was born in Newstadt Poland, 74 years ago, and came to Portland as a young man. He established a dry goods business on Middle Street from which he retired only recently. Mr Wolf was one the oldest Jewish residents in Portland and was one of the first to help organize the Portland Hebrew Free School. He was also one of the founders and active workers of the Shararei Teflio [sic] Synagogue, and was also a director of the Hebrew Free Loan Association.

Mr Wolf made many bequests, which include all local chartiable institutions as well as national institutions. He also donated a sum of money for the building of a Home for Hebrew Aged, for which he had helped start plans.

Many relatives and friends are mourning the loss of Mr Wolf, who was one of the most honored and respected in the Jewish community. He was charitable, religious, and interested in all community affairs.

Mr Wolf is survived by his wife, Mrs Hiram B Wolf; his sister, Mrs Minnie Sable of Roxbury; two sons, George Wolf of this city and Meyer Wolf of Brookline; two daughters Mrs Joseph Rabinowitz of Brookline, and Mrs Sarah Jacobs; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr Wolf was also the father of the later Mrs David Shwartz.
