BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Philip Grossman, 93, formerly of Bangor, passed away June 11, 2006, surrounded by his family, at home. He was the beloved husband of Janette 'Jimi' Grossman, to whom he was married for 64 years. Phil was born April 21, 1913, in New Haven, Conn. and graduated from Brewer High School and Husson Business School where he played three sports. He was the owner of Philip's Variety Store in Bangor during which time he sponsored a Little League baseball team. In 1952, he opened Grossman Hardware & Locksmith until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid golfer belonging to both the Lucerne and Penobscot Valley County Clubs, a Red Sox enthusiast, bridge player, community theater participant, member of both Beth Israel and Beth Abraham Synagogues and the Jewish Community Council. He is survived by his loving daughter, Priscilla Williams of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Bangor; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Daniel Williams and Emily Cain of Orono, Kenneth and Michelle Williams of Wellington, Fla., Eric Williams and his fianc?e, Shantell Morris, of Center Valley, Pa.; and his adored great-granddaughters, Sydney Alexa and Olivia Jordan Williams of Wellington, Fla.; by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jimi; son, Kenneth; as well as his brothers, Milton and William Grossman; and his sister, Ruth Mirkin. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St, Bangor, with Rabbi David Cantor officiating. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor.
