Note: Ann Harrisburg - "John Archibald Harrisburg: born 8/1898, died at the Second Battle of the Marme—was the last major German offensive on the Western Front during the First World War. The attack failed when an Allied counterattack, supported by several hundred tanks, overwhelmed the Germans on their right flank, inflicting severe casualties. The Americans in the 6th Marines fought at Vierzy, France (Verte Feuille) on July 19, 1918. The Marines were exposed to terrific machine gun and high-explosive fire during the battle. John was the youngest of his Harrisburg siblings. The State of Maine Death Certificate reads that John Archibald Harrisburg died on July 19, 1918 in France, Europe. John was a Private in the Marines. It is difficult to read the death certificate handwriting, but I (Ann Oppenheim) believe that he was in company 9, 6th Marines. The family has said that John is buried in Auburn, Maine. F. E. Dillingham is the undertaker. Robert Harrisburg went to the gravesite of Hannah and Harry Harrisburg, his parents, and saw no tombstone for John.
