STEVEN ERIC STRIAR -- OBITUARY

 
Bangor- Steven Eric Striar 48, loving and deeply devoted husband to Charlotte Marie Striar of Bangor, died Nov 4 1999, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Irvington NJ, July 16, 1951, the son of Max Gordon and Sarah Sophie (Rapaport) Striar.He was a prominent Maine business man, investor and president of Eastland Woolen Mill of Corinna and Striar Textile Mill of Orono. He served a director of Nyle International of Brewer, also served as president of the James Striar Family Foundation, and as chairman of the Hebrew Academy of Bangor. Steven was a member of Congregation Beth Abraham and served as a past advisor of the New England Regional national Conference of Synagogue Youth-Rishon L’Maine, Bangor Chapter. He was a member of the Alumni Assns. Of Brewster Academy, Wolfboro, NH amd Curry College, Milton, Mass.; Maine Trout Unlimited, Sebasticook Lake Assn. a life member of the BostonMuseum of Science and the New England Aquarium. Steven was a benefactor to numerous philanthropies. He loved boating, summers on Lake Sebasticook in Newport with family and friends. Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of Bangor, are two cherished sons, Benjamin Ireland and Braydon Ireland, both of Bangor, his sister, Jo-Ann (Striar) Kirstein and her husband, Jerome S. of Bangor;two special nieces and a special nephew, Julie (Kirstein) Shulman and her husband, Ayal of Jerusalem, Israel, Jennifer L. Kirstein and Joshua A. Kirstein, both of Bangor; several loving aunts, uncles,cousins and many wonderful friends. He adored his canine companions, Maxwell and Sophie. Steven will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his kind and generous spirit and his enormous heart. Steven touched more hearts in his 48 years than most people would in a lifetime.
