LOUIS (JOHNNIE) STRIAR -- OBITUARY

 
BANGOR – Louis (Johnnie) Striar, 64, died Jan. 19, 1979, at his residence following a long illness. He was born April 27, 1914 in Bangor, the son of Hyman and Bessie (Gass) Striar. He was owner of Striar’s Jewelry Store and was a jeweler and watchmaker for 49 years. He was an Army air Force World War II veteran. He was a member of the Congregation Beth Abraham and a member of the Beth Abraham Chevrah Kadishah committee. He was a member fo the Alpha Lodge of Masons No. 172 of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., all Scottish rite Bodies of Bangor, Maine Consistory, 32nd Degree Mason of Portland, Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor, John f. Kennedy Pot, DAV, of Bangor. Throughout his life he quietly helped many unfortunate people. He is survived by his wife Ruth (Weisman) Striar; two sons, Brian and Joseph Striar; one brother, Jacob Striar, all of Bangor; one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Mower of flushing, NY; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 12 noon at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, with Rabbi Henry Isaacs officiating. Interment will take place at Beth Abraham Cemetery, Bangor. Memorial Week will be observed at 35 Parkview Ave., Bangor. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Jewish Braille Institute of America, Inc, 110 East 30th St., New York, NY 10016 or American Printing House for the blind, 1839 Prankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206.
