Rosanne Marcus swimming for Yale

circa 1972 - private collection

Thank you to Saul Marcus for the photo

Note:
"My sister Rosanne began swimming in the 1960s and won 2 New England AAU titles. She was undefeated during her Deering High School career and held several Maine records. In 1972 she entered Yale as a freshman, which I believe began admitting women the year before. She joined the women's swim team, but initially Yale wouldn't let the women swim in the men's pool -- the school's best pool. But this was the beginning of the Title IX era, and Yale relented under legal pressure. She was named Yale MVP and was captain of her team for two years. In 2009 she was inducted into the Maine Swimming Hall of fame in Augusta": Saul Marcus
